Jos East: Troops Rescue District Head From Mob After Fatal Mining Site Attack

Nigerian military personnel from Sector 1, Sub-Sector 12, successfully intervened to save Alhaji Musa Usman, the District Head of Fursum in Plateau State’s Jos East Local Government Area, from a violent mob. The incident unfolded on September 25, 2026, around 1:45 p.m., according to security sources who spoke with Zagazola Makama. Troops were dispatched to the district head's residence following reports of a community attack.

Youths from the Ninseng community were reportedly behind the assault on Alhaji Usman. They accused him of providing support to Fulani residents within the area. This attack stemmed from a preceding incident where a local individual was killed at an unauthorized mining site situated in the Nabar Dutse community.

Investigations revealed that three young men, all from the same family in Kwanga Community, Fursum District, had ventured into a local mining operation in the hills when they were ambushed. One of these individuals, identified as Mr. Izang, tragically lost his life, while his two brothers sustained injuries during the assault.

The district head, Alhaji Musa Usman, suffered injuries during the mob attack and was promptly transported to the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) for urgent medical care. Furthermore, his vehicle was set ablaze by the assailants. Following their intervention, the troops managed to de-escalate the situation and established a strong presence across the general area. This measure aims to prevent any further escalation of violence or potential retaliatory actions. Security forces remain deployed in the vicinity, continuing their efforts to uphold law and order.
