Kebbi Police Intercept Nigerian Wanted in Niger Republic for Partner's Homicide

Authorities within the Kebbi State Police Command have announced the apprehension of a Nigerian national, previously sought by law enforcement in the Niger Republic in connection with the fatal stabbing of his business associate. The individual, identified as Mas’udu Saidu, was located and taken into custody in Gulma town, situated within the Argungu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

SP Bashir Usman, the command’s spokesperson, verified these developments to members of the press in Birnin Kebbi on Friday, September 25, 2026. Usman detailed that Saidu is accused of fatally stabbing his 38-year-old business partner, Mas’udu M. Sani, with a knife in the Niger Republic before escaping to the Gulma region of Kebbi State to evade capture. The deceased victim was reportedly a native of Kebbe Local Government Area in Sokoto State. Both the arrested suspect and the late business partner are Nigerian citizens.

According to the PPRO, the successful arrest was a result of reliable intelligence gathering and ongoing cooperation with various international security organizations. He explained that a rigorous manhunt for the suspect commenced following his declaration as a wanted person by Niger Republic authorities, culminating in his eventual capture in Kebbi State.

Confirming the apprehension, the PPRO remarked, “Yes, we arrested a fugitive wanted in Niger Republic for stabbing his business partner to d3ath. We are currently investigating him at the SCID.” He also mentioned that the state command is collaborating closely with the Interpol section, which operates under the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Abuja. Regarding the legal proceedings, he clarified, “His prosecution can only be determined by our Interpol section at the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters, Abuja, because most of their duties deal with cases that have to do with cross border and inter-country crimes.”
