Jigawa Hisbah Nabs Eight Over Alleged Homosexual Acts

Authorities from the Jigawa State Hisbah Board have apprehended eight individuals in the Kazaure Local Government Area on suspicion of engaging in homosexual activities. This action follows a formal complaint lodged by a resident in the Kanti area of Kazaure town.

Confirming the development to a PUNCH correspondent on Saturday in Dutse, the state capital, Mr. Dauda Hadejia, the Public Relations Officer for the Hisbah Board, stated that the Corps received a report from a 22-year-old man. The complainant alleged that he had been involved in homosexual acts with nine different individuals on various occasions. Furthermore, he claimed to have contracted HIV, which he attributed directly to these alleged encounters.

Mr. Hadejia explained that the complainant implored the Hisbah authorities to intervene and secure justice, describing the alleged actions as deceitful and detrimental to his life. In response to this complaint, Hisbah operatives initiated an investigation and commenced a search for the nine individuals identified by the complainant.

“Our personnel swiftly acted after receiving the complaint, and so far, eight suspects have been taken into custody, with ongoing efforts to locate and apprehend the remaining individual,” Hadejia disclosed. He further revealed that during initial questioning, the eight apprehended suspects reportedly confessed to having engaged in the acts with the complainant.

The Hisbah Corps has since gathered all pertinent information and evidence, which will be presented before the court. Dr. Hussain Baban, the Deputy Commander-General of the Jigawa State Hisbah Board, was quoted by Hadejia as urging parents to exercise increased caution regarding their children's upbringing. “Dr. Baban implored parents to dedicate more attention to their children’s development and closely monitor their associations,” Hadejia conveyed. The DCG also admonished the general public to maintain reverence for God and be mindful of the repercussions of their conduct.

According to the PRO, investigations are still in progress, and the suspects will face charges in court once the inquiry is concluded. Mr. Hadejia concluded by stating that Dr. Baban expressed gratitude to the Jigawa State Government for its unwavering support and collaboration with the Hisbah Board in fulfilling its mandate.
