Plateau Mining Site Ambush Claims Five Lives

Tragedy struck a mining location in Plateau State on Saturday afternoon, as at least five individuals involved in mining activities were reportedly killed and two others sustained injuries following an ambush by armed assailants. The distressing incident unfolded around 1:00 PM in Marit village, situated within the Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of the state.

Community sources indicated that the miners were carrying out their legitimate work when the attackers descended upon them, an event that has plunged the community into mourning and reignited serious concerns regarding the safety of residents in the region.

Confirming the fatal attack, Mr. Rwang Tengwong, the National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders-Association, stated that five people lost their lives, while two others suffered various degrees of injury. “This is a truly sad and painful development. Our people are once again grieving the loss of lives due to violence,” Tengwong remarked, urging security agencies to redouble their efforts to safeguard communities and prevent future occurrences of such attacks.

Echoing these sentiments, Mr. Simon Mundat, a resident of the community, described the event as utterly devastating. “We are profoundly saddened by this attack. We implore the authorities to enhance security presence in the area, so our people can pursue their lawful activities without fear,” he appealed.

As of the time this report was compiled, attempts to obtain an official statement or confirmation from security agencies proved unsuccessful.

In a separate but related development, security personnel, working in concert with local hunters, successfully repelled an assault by suspected terr*rists on Latok community in Qua’an-Pan Local Government Area of the state. According to Danat Noel, a member of the community, the attackers invaded the area on Friday but were forced to retreat swiftly due to the prompt and effective response from security operatives and local hunters.
