Mowe Incident: Man Dies After Neighbours Assault Over Child Hug

A disturbing incident in Mowe, Ogun State, has led to the tragic death of 38-year-old Mike Oje, who was reportedly beaten by his neighbours. The unfortunate event unfolded following a dispute concerning Oje's interaction with a three-year-old child.

Reports indicate that Oje was engaging in play and hugging the young child when the child's father allegedly became agitated, accusing him of 'rough play'.

DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, confirmed these details in a statement issued from Abeokuta on Friday. According to Babaseyi, in the aftermath of the father's outburst, several neighbours reportedly intervened, using a bamboo stick to assault Oje. The police spokesperson further stated that Oje collapsed during the attack, suffering severe injuries from the beating, which ultimately led to his death.

It was also reported by the police that the primary suspect, the child's father, along with his family, absconded from the vicinity shortly after the incident, upon realizing the gravity of what had transpired. Authorities believe he is currently evading capture in an undisclosed location.
