El-Rufai to Re-evaluate Relationships After Friends' Silence During Trial

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has indicated his intention to reassess certain personal relationships. The politician stated that some individuals he previously supported have seemingly deserted him during his current legal challenges. El-Rufai conveyed these sentiments through a recent statement published on his official X account.

The former Federal Capital Territory Minister is presently embroiled in a legal battle, facing accusations of money laundering and illicit conversion of public assets. His detention began on February 19, when he was taken into custody by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) shortly after being released by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

In his online post, El-Rufai reflected that his recent difficulties and the responses of some acquaintances have provided him with profound life lessons. He emphasised that he harbours no resentment towards those who have distanced themselves from him.

El-Rufai penned, "Some have expressed concern at the apparent silence, in my present circumstances, of some of my colleagues, friends and family members whom I have publicly stood by or associated closely with in the past. What I learn in difficult times like the past few months may lead me, quietly and without regret, to reconsider the nature of certain relationships and what those that look up to me expect of them."

He further clarified that his impending decision to re-evaluate these relationships should not be interpreted as an accusation or judgment, but rather as an opportunity to gain clearer insight into people and the broader aspects of life.
