A Paris judicial panel on Tuesday, September 15, mandated a payment of one euro (equivalent to approximately $1.15) to American reality television personality, Kim Kardashian. This decision comes as a resolution to her being the victim of an armed robbery that occurred in the French capital back in 2016. The celebrity had previously described the incident as “the most terrifying experience of my life,” and has since been working to move past the trauma, especially after eight individuals were convicted last year for their involvement in the heist.

In a joint statement released on Tuesday with her stylist, Simone Harouche, Kardashian expressed profound appreciation for the French legal system. The statement, shared with The Associated Press by both Americans, highlighted the lasting impact of the event: “The experience was deeply traumatic, and its impact has stayed with us. Today’s decision is not about the compensation, but about accountability and recognition.” They further added, “We are thankful to the Court and everyone who supported us throughout this process, and we hope to now move forward and continue to heal.”

A lawyer connected to the proceedings confirmed that the one euro awarded to Kim Kardashian was precisely the sum she had sought as compensation.

However, other parties involved in the incident received significantly higher awards. A former receptionist at the Hôtel de Pourtalès, where Kardashian was staying when the robbery gang struck, was granted 109,516 euros (about $126,472) by the court. His legal representative stated that the receptionist, who had previously requested 550,000 euros ($634,868) in damages and interest, suffered trauma from the jewel heist on October 2, 2016, which took place during Paris Fashion Week. His lawyer, Mohand Ouidja, hailed the court’s ruling as a victory.

The hotel itself was also awarded 50,000 euros (approximately $57,741). Additionally, Simone Harouche, Kardashian’s stylist who was present during the robbery, also received one euro, which was the amount she had requested.

Following the conviction of the perpetrators, Kardashian had previously issued a statement expressing her “deep gratitude to the French authorities for pursuing justice in this case.” She reiterated the profound effect of the event, stating, “The crime was the most terrifying experience of my life, leaving a lasting impact on me and my family.” She concluded by saying, “While I’ll never forget what happened, I believe in the power of growth and accountability and pray for healing for all. I remain committed to advocating for justice and promoting a fair legal system.”
