Anambra Woman Nabbed After Allegedly Burning 7-Year-Old Daughter with Hot Knife

Operatives of the security forces in Anambra State have taken into custody a 32-year-old woman, identified as Ogechi Ofoma, concerning the alleged brutal abuse of her seven-year-old daughter, Oluebube Ofoma. The incident reportedly occurred in Obosi, located within the Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.

The young girl was successfully rescued on Sunday, September 13, 2026, thanks to the intervention of security personnel from the Ibollo Community in Awada-Obosi, alongside vigilant residents who discovered the severe abuse. This development was confirmed by SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Anambra State Police Command, in a statement released on Monday.

Ikenga stated that the Command received a report on the evening of September 13 detailing an alleged child abuse case involving a seven-year-old girl who had sustained serious bodily injuries. Initial findings indicated that the child had reportedly endured severe physical maltreatment, including wounds believed to have been inflicted with a heated knife.

Following the swift action by community security and residents, the child was taken to safety, preventing further harm. Subsequently, her mother was apprehended, and official police investigations commenced immediately. SP Ikenga reassured the public that the inquiry into this grave incident would be conducted with utmost thoroughness, professionalism, and without compromise, emphasizing that the child's well-being, safety, and best interests remain the paramount concern for the authorities.
