Full Story

Matt Bevin, who previously served as Kentucky's governor, was taken into custody on Thursday, September 3. His arrest is connected to a contempt-of-court matter stemming from his ongoing divorce and child support legal actions. Louisville Public Media reported that Bevin was apprehended in Bourbon County, Kentucky, while working as an extra on a Christmas movie set.

Following his arrest, Bevin was transported to the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections. He was subsequently booked on a charge officially listed as “contempt of court libel/slander resistance to order.” The underlying issue for this legal action is Bevin’s alleged failure to supply crucial financial documents requested by the presiding judge handling his divorce and child support case. This non-compliance led the judge to declare him in contempt of court and issue an arrest warrant.

Earlier in the year, Bevin had also faced a prior warrant for failing to appear at a court hearing in May. He reportedly attributed his absence at that time to a boulder striking his vacation residence in Maine. Following this, he settled a fine, and the initial warrant was subsequently withdrawn by the judge. However, a second warrant was issued when Bevin once again failed to submit the required financial records. On this occasion, the fine remained outstanding, and the warrant stayed active, ultimately culminating in his recent arrest.

Louisville Public Media further detailed that Bevin's former spouse, Glenna, alongside their son, were present at a court session in July. During this particular hearing, an unidentified individual reportedly made multiple attempts to join the proceedings via Zoom but was disconnected after failing to properly identify themselves. Bevin held the position of Kentucky's 62nd governor from 2015 to 2019.
