Full Story
Authorities in Anambra State have apprehended a 20-year-old man, Pascal Ogbogu, in connection with the alleged killing of his 56-year-old father. The incident reportedly occurred in Abatete, located within the Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.
Preliminary police reports indicate that on the evening of August 25, the suspect allegedly launched an attack on his father before absconding from the scene. Following a distress call, operatives from the Eziowelle Police Division, supported by family members and the Abatete Vigilante, swiftly moved to the location. Upon arrival, they discovered the deceased’s lifeless body, lying in a pool of blood, bearing a severe machete wound to the throat. The remains were subsequently transported to the mortuary for preservation and an autopsy.
Pascal Ogbogu, who had reportedly fled after the assault, was successfully tracked down and arrested in the early hours of August 26. This apprehension was a result of coordinated efforts between the Police and members of the Abatete Vigilante, further aided by timely intelligence and cooperation from local community members who assisted security personnel in pinpointing his whereabouts.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, specifically lauded the collaborative spirit shown by the family, community residents, police officers, and vigilante members for their prompt action and support. He underscored the importance of active community involvement, efficient information sharing, and robust partnerships between law enforcement and local populations as crucial elements for effective policing and safeguarding lives and property.
While extending his condolences to the bereaved family, CP Ama issued a directive for the case to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID). This transfer is intended for a more comprehensive investigation and thorough review, aiming to ascertain the full circumstances surrounding the tragic event and ensure all pertinent facts are meticulously established. The Commissioner reassured both the family and the wider public that the investigation would be conducted with professionalism, thoroughness, and diligence, in strict adherence to legal procedures, promising that the suspect would face due process upon the investigation's conclusion.
