Anambra Police Nab Man Over Friend's Murder Linked to Land Fraud

Authorities in Anambra State have apprehended 32-year-old Ifeanyi Nwankwo, who is accused of killing his 56-year-old friend, Kelechi Madu, within the Awkuzu area of Oyi Local Government. The state police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed that the command initiated an investigation following a report on August 18 from the victim's wife. She had reported that her husband, Kelechi Madu, left home on the evening of August 17 and failed to return.
Ikenga detailed that police operatives, alongside local vigilante members and family of the missing man, immediately launched a search and inquiry to ascertain his whereabouts. Later that same day, the distraught wife returned to the police station to report a grim discovery: her husband's body had been found in a nearby bush in Umuobi, Awkuzu. Officers swiftly responded to the scene, where they found Mr. Madu deceased, bearing a severe axe wound to his head. His remains were then taken to a hospital for preservation.
During the ongoing investigation, authorities apprehended Ifeanyi Nwankwo, who was a friend of the late Kelechi Madu. Nwankwo subsequently confessed to his role in orchestrating and carrying out the murder of his friend. Initial findings indicate that Nwankwo had allegedly defrauded Mr. Madu of money, promising to help him purchase land. To cover up this fraudulent activity and prevent exposure of the money he had taken, the suspect reportedly enlisted two other individuals to commit the murder.
The police spokesperson further stated that the Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has ordered a thorough intensification of the investigation to identify and apprehend all co-conspirators involved in the heinous crime.
