Abuja: DSS Nabs Impostor Extorting Drivers with Fake Kit

The Department of State Services (DSS) in Abuja recently apprehended an individual identified as Moferewa Maiye, who was found to be posing as one of its personnel. Maiye, who claims to originate from Agbajojun Village in Mopamuro Local Government Area of Kogi State, was successfully tracked down and taken into custody by DSS officers. His arrest occurred on Wednesday evening at his hideout located around the NITEL Junction, along Adetokunbo Ademola Way, within the Wuse II district of Abuja.

At the time of his apprehension, Maiye was dressed in a DSS tactical uniform and was in possession of a fabricated pistol. According to an informed security official, the Secret Police initiated the operation based on credible intelligence. The information indicated that Maiye was leveraging the uniform and the imitation firearm to intimidate commuters and motorists, subsequently extorting money from them.

During his interrogation, the suspect reportedly claimed that the DSS kit he was found with belonged to his late brother, Monday Maiye, who he stated was a DSS operative before his demise years ago. Moferewa Maiye is currently undergoing further questioning by security operatives. The source further disclosed that the Service is actively investigating the circumstances under which Maiye acquired the DSS uniform and other gear.

Investigators are also working to ascertain the duration of the suspect's involvement in similar acts of impersonation and extortion. This arrest, the source emphasized, highlights the growing concerns within the Service regarding individuals who unlawfully impersonate security personnel to terrorize members of the public and perpetrate criminal activities.
