Authorities from the Osun State Police Command have disclosed that popular musician Davido was the intended target during an incident involving the convoy of Governor Ademola Adeleke on Wednesday, August 19. The governor's security detail reportedly exchanged gunfire with unknown assailants. This confrontation took place while Governor Adeleke was visiting the Ataoja of Osogbo's palace, immediately following the receipt of his certificate of return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Davido, alongside the governor's children, was present in the convoy when the disturbance unfolded.

A chaotic scene ensued as unidentified gunmen unleashed a barrage of shots at the convoy, prompting the governor's security personnel to retaliate with their own fire. Confirming the details of the event, the police command's spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, stated that initial investigations indicated that individuals from the Eye Confraternity had Davido in their sights. Ojelabi elaborated, saying, “One Adebayo Taoreed, popularly known as “Small Rugged”, an ex convict, a suspected notorious thug and a member of eye confraternity allegedly attempted to gain access to Davido but was resisted by members of his security Team. The ensuing confrontation reportedly attracted other suspected gang members in the vicinity, who temporarily blocked the entrance to the palace and obstructed the movement of the convoy of the Governor.”

Furthermore, Ojelabi reported that Tajudeen Yusuf, a 60-year-old man, lost his life during the exchange of gunfire. He quoted, “Shortly afterwards, the suspected gang members reportedly departed the vicinity and, however on their way, they allegedly shot Tajudeen Yusuf at Itaolokan area of Osogbo. Upon receiving the information, the police immediately mobilised a patrol team to the scene, where the victim was found lying in a pool of blood. He was promptly rushed to the University Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, for medical attention. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead by the doctors on duty. The Command has commenced a full-scale investigation into the incident and intensified efforts to identify, apprehend and bring the fleeing suspects to justice.” The police command has since initiated a comprehensive investigation into the matter, vowing to intensify efforts to identify, apprehend, and prosecute all suspects involved.
