Suspect's Rooftop Nap Ends Two-Day Police Standoff in Salford

A prolonged 48-hour standoff involving Greater Manchester Police (GMP) in Salford, England, finally concluded after the individual at the center of the incident reportedly dozed off on a small structure atop a roof. This unusual development allowed law enforcement officers to ascend and apprehend the 37-year-old suspect, who was wanted on recall to prison, while he was unconscious.
The incident commenced on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at a property situated on Reservoir Street, as GMP personnel attempted to effect an arrest requested by another police force. The protracted situation led to considerable disruption for the local community and resulted in damage to nearby properties.
Ultimately, the suspect fell asleep on Saturday, August 15. Tactical Aid Unit officers capitalized on this opportunity, deploying a ladder to reach and remove him from the rooftop while he was still asleep. A brief struggle ensued during his descent down the ladder, with his trousers reportedly coming down before he was formally taken into custody in the garden below. Two police officers sustained injuries during the operation, which authorities described as reaching a "safe conclusion." The extensive standoff consumed substantial policing resources over the two-day period.
