The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended a prominent social media influencer and purported luxury goods dealer as he attempted to exit Nigeria. Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, revealed this development during a press briefing in Lagos on Tuesday, August 18, 2026.

According to Marwa, the operation was initiated following the seizure of a massive 184.50 kilograms of cocaine. This illicit cargo was cleverly hidden for export via a courier logistics firm in Lagos. Given the substantial quantity involved, General Marwa promptly ordered the formation of a specialized investigation team tasked with uncovering the entire network behind the shipment. The cartel reportedly aimed to generate an estimated N39 billion from this consignment through its extensive international distribution channels.

Collaborating closely with the courier company's management, NDLEA operatives meticulously dismantled a complex web of intermediary businesses and individuals utilized to process the illicit goods. This led to the arrest of two primary suspects, among others. Marwa identified one suspect as Lawal Mujab Kehinde, an employee of the logistics firm that handled the cocaine. Investigations revealed Kehinde's direct and continuous involvement with the cartel's Nigerian coordinator. It was also established that he was responsible for packaging and processing consignments destined for the United Kingdom, other European countries, and Asia, receiving cash payments for his services.

The second and more high-profile suspect is Afolabi Kazeem Michael, widely recognized online as "KC Luxury." Further probes identified him as the Nigerian mastermind of the drug syndicate. Afolabi, who presented himself as a social media influencer and entrepreneur dealing in gold, jewelry, and luxury items, exploited his glamorous public persona to conceal a vast criminal operation. This enterprise facilitated the movement of cocaine from South America, through Nigeria, and onward to the UK, other parts of Europe, and Asia.

“This cartel leader did not walk into our custody voluntarily,” the NDLEA boss stated. “On the night of 13th August 2026, upon credible intelligence that he intended to flee the country on a business-class flight to Paris, our operatives moved decisively and apprehended him at the boarding gate of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, just as he attempted to escape the reach of the law. He was found in possession of foreign currencies: €7,750 (Seven Thousand, Seven Hundred and Fifty Euros); £2,800 (Two Thousand, Eight Hundred Pounds Sterling) and N100,000 (One Hundred Thousand Naira) cash, and expensive jewelry, consistent with the proceeds of his illicit trade.”

A subsequent search of Afolabi's opulent apartment on Banana Island, Ikoyi, resulted in the recovery of several exotic vehicles. Marwa further explained that investigations indicated the cartel employed false identities to obscure the true consignors of its shipments, relied on financial facilitators who transferred billions of naira on its behalf, and maintained active criminal contacts in the United Kingdom, some of whom have already been arrested by British authorities in connection with the same syndicate.

He connected this successful operation to a series of recent victories against transnational drug networks. These include the dismantling of the Switzerland-based Simon Amadi drug cartel, which laundered millions of dollars through dark web marketplaces, and the takedown of two Nigerian-Mexican methamphetamine syndicates operating clandestine laboratories in forests across Ogun and Oyo States. Marwa concluded by stating, "These operations send an unmistakable signal that this Agency's reach extends into the ports, the forests, the luxury apartments, and the departure lounges alike, and that no sanctuary exists anywhere in Nigeria for those who traffic in poison."
