Adamawa Police Thwart Kidnap Bid on 6-Year-Old, Arrest Teenager

Authorities in Adamawa State have successfully prevented the abduction of a six-year-old girl and taken a teenage suspect into custody within the Mayo Belwa Local Government Area. This development was confirmed by the command’s spokesperson, Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, in a statement released on August 18, 2026.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, law enforcement agents received reliable intelligence indicating that an 18-year-old, identified as Abdullahi Sa’adu, had made an attempt to forcibly take Nora Luka. Responding swiftly to this information, a police patrol team promptly intercepted the suspect and placed him under arrest. The young victim was safely recovered without any injuries and subsequently handed over to her parents.
The official statement from the command elaborated, stating: "The Adamawa State Police Command has foiled an attempted abduction of a 6-year-old girl following the prompt intervention of Police operatives attached to Mayo Belwa Divisional Headquarters." It further detailed: "On 18th August, 2026, Police operatives at Mayo Belwa received credible information that one Abdullahi Sa’adu, 18 years old, of Anguwan Eti Salat, Mayo Belwa, had attempted to forcefully abduct Nora Luka, 6 years old, of Anguwan Tsakuwa, Mayo Belwa. The suspect was promptly intercepted by the Police patrol team and taken into custody, while the victim was rescued unhurt and handed over to her parents for safety."
Commissioner of Police for Adamawa State Command, CP Kabir Umar Hassan, fdc, extended his commendation to both the police patrol unit and community members for their rapid response and exemplary professionalism. He reaffirmed the Command's unwavering commitment to safeguarding children and other vulnerable segments of society.
Investigations into the incident are currently ongoing. Upon their conclusion, the suspect is expected to be brought before a court of law. The Command has also urged parents, guardians, and the general public to maintain vigilance and report any suspicious movements or activities involving children to the nearest police station or by utilizing the Command’s emergency helpline: 08089671313.
