Anambra Police Uncover Firearms, Cult Regalia in Abandoned Motorcycle

In a significant breakthrough, the Anambra State Police Command has made a startling discovery, uncovering two locally fabricated pistols and three caps associated with the Vikings Confraternity from an abandoned motorcycle in Awka North Local Government Area. This remarkable find was made possible by the diligent efforts of operatives from the command's Violent Crime Response Unit, who were conducting a routine patrol along the Isuaniocha Bridge on Thursday. According to the command's spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the officers had spotted two young men riding a black Sanyang motorcycle without a registration number, prompting them to give chase when the riders made a sudden and reckless turn upon sighting the police team. The suspects eventually fell from the motorcycle, abandoning it along with two slippers and a bag, before fleeing into a nearby bush. A thorough search of the abandoned bag yielded the recovery of the firearms and cult caps. The statement from the police command noted that the recovery of these items is a testament to the command's commitment to sustained patrols, intelligence-led operations, and proactive policing measures aimed at disrupting criminal activities and ensuring the safety and security of residents across the state. The Commissioner of Police in Anambra, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has directed operatives to intensify efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects and establish their identities, affiliations, and the circumstances surrounding the possession of the recovered items. This development comes on the heels of a similar incident in July, where officers of the Lagos State Police Command arrested a suspected armed robbery suspect and recovered a locally fabricated pistol alongside assorted charms during a routine patrol in the Igando area of Lagos State.
