In a bid to maintain order on the roads, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command has issued a stern warning to motorists in the state to adhere strictly to traffic laws and regulations. The command, in a statement released by its Public Relations Officer, Timfon John, emphasized that anyone found violating traffic laws would face the full wrath of the law, with no excuses tolerated for ignorance of the law. This warning is part of a statewide enforcement exercise aimed at restoring sanity to the roads, minimizing accidents, protecting lives and property, and ensuring the smooth movement of people and vehicles across the state. The police have particularly highlighted offenses such as driving against traffic, operating vehicles without valid documents or a driver's license, and the use of unauthorized or tampered number plates. Additionally, the use of unregistered vehicles, motorcycles, and tricycles will also be targeted during the enforcement. The command's statement underscored the importance of compliance with traffic laws, noting that the enforcement exercise is designed to be firm, comprehensive, and respectful, with officers instructed to maintain professionalism in their interactions with the public. Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and other operational units have been directed to intensify enforcement within their jurisdictions, with a strict warning against extortion, harassment, and other unprofessional conduct during the exercise.
