In a significant development, a Texas mother, Maria Narez, who had been evading law enforcement for nearly three decades, has been apprehended in Mexico. Narez, now 48 years old, was accused of murdering her 3-year-old daughter, Kasandra White, in November 1996. According to reports, the toddler was thrown against a wall by her mother, resulting in fatal injuries. At the time of the incident, Narez was a 19-year-old grocery store clerk who claimed she was feeling depressed and stressed, which led to her snapping and committing the heinous crime. The case took a turn when Narez was indicted by a grand jury in 1997, but she managed to flee across the border to Mexico after her bond was lowered to $25,000. A warrant was issued for her arrest, and she had been on the run ever since. The District Attorney's office expressed relief that Narez had finally been caught, stating that they never gave up on bringing her to justice for the death of her daughter. Narez is expected to be extradited to Tarrant County, where she will face capital murder charges. The successful capture of Narez was made possible through the collaborative efforts of Mexico Interpol, the U.S. Marshals Mexico Foreign Field Office, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and other law enforcement agencies. As Narez prepares to face trial, the community is left to ponder the circumstances that led to the tragic death of an innocent child.
