In a bid to safeguard public infrastructure, the Lagos State Government has apprehended 27 individuals suspected of vandalizing the newly constructed bridge connecting Festac Town to Alakija. The arrests were made possible through a collaborative effort between the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) and the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) task force, which conducted a joint midnight operation. According to Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, the operation was undertaken in accordance with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu's directive to eradicate environmental infractions and illegal activities along the Lagos-Badagry Transnational Highway. Investigations revealed that the suspected hoodlums had intentionally removed vital structural materials from the bridge, thereby compromising its integrity and posing a significant threat to public safety. As stated by the commissioner, 'Investigations revealed that suspected hoodlums had deliberately vandalised critical structural components of the bridge by removing iron rods, steel reinforcements, cables, and other supporting materials essential to the integrity of the infrastructure.' The alleged vandalism has been deemed a serious threat to the infrastructure's integrity and the government's investment in public projects. Consequently, security operatives launched a coordinated enforcement operation, resulting in the arrest of 27 suspects who will be prosecuted in accordance with Lagos State laws.
