Yobe Man Arrested for Bow and Arrow Attack After Wife's Alleged Compromising Situation

The Yobe State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 22-year-old individual implicated in an assault case involving a bow and arrow in Tarmuwa Local Government Area. SP Dungus Abdulkarim, the command's spokesperson, issued a statement on Thursday, August 6, 2026, detailing that the suspect allegedly attacked the victim after encountering him in what was described as a compromising situation with his wife, close to her parents' house.

"A report of grievous hurt has been lodged at the Tarmuwa Divisional Police Headquarters, and the Command is currently investigating the matter," the statement indicated. Initial findings from the investigation suggest that the incident stemmed from the 22-year-old suspect's alleged discovery of his wife with another man near her parents' residence in Danewa-Biriri Village, Tarmuwa Local Government Area.

During the ensuing dispute, the suspect reportedly used a bow and arrow to shoot the victim, resulting in severe injuries. The injured party is presently receiving medical attention at the Police Hospital in Damaturu, while the alleged assailant has been apprehended. "The investigation is ongoing to ascertain all details surrounding this incident, after which appropriate legal steps will be pursued," the statement concluded regarding this case.

In separate developments, the police command also announced the apprehension of five additional suspects involved in cases of fraud and the vandalisation of a community transformer across Damaturu and Fika Local Government Areas.

On August 6, 2026, around 1300hrs, operatives from 'A' Division, Damaturu, responded to a fraud report originating from July 31, 2026. Unidentified individuals had fraudulently obtained one carton of OBA Spaghetti and two half bags of parboiled rice from a shop along Ajari–Gashua Road, Damaturu, after an accomplice allegedly impersonated the complainant via a phone call. Following the report, detectives visited the scene and launched a discreet investigation. This led to the arrest of Mohammed Sani, 26, residing at Zanna Zakarya Housing Estate, and Ali Isa Waziri, 25, from Waziri Ibrahim Housing Estate, both in Damaturu. Both suspects confessed to the crime during interrogation, and the stolen food items were recovered and documented as exhibits. The investigation continues with the aim of prosecuting those involved.

Furthermore, on August 6, 2026, at approximately 0800hrs, Fika Divisional Police Headquarters received an urgent report concerning the vandalism of a community transformer, with its power cable stolen by unknown persons. Police operatives, working collaboratively with local community members and vigilantes, swiftly mobilised and tracked the suspects. This operation led to the arrest of Ibrahim Musa, 23, of Bizagula Ward, Potiskum, who was found in possession of the stolen transformer cable. During questioning, Musa admitted his involvement, and two more suspects were subsequently arrested in connection with the crime. The stolen power cable was recovered as evidence, and further investigation is underway to uncover the full extent of the criminal network and ensure all culprits are brought to justice.

Analysing these incidents, Commissioner of Police, CP Usman Kanfani Jibrin, psc, mspsp, SM.ICM, appealed to the public to uphold the law, refrain from vigilantism, protect vital public infrastructure, and promptly report any suspicious activities or criminal acts to the nearest police outpost for immediate action.
