Simon Ekpa, who identifies as the self-acclaimed Prime Minister of the Biafra Republic Government in Exile (BRGIE), has voiced strong confidence that the prison sentence issued by a Finnish court against him will ultimately be overturned. Ekpa was convicted last year on charges related to terrorism, which connected him to violent incidents and fatalities in Nigeria's Southeastern region.

On September 1, 2025, a Finnish district court handed down a six-year jail term to the secessionist figure. However, during his appeal hearing proceedings held on Thursday, August 6, Ekpa addressed a group of Biafra agitators. He maintained that the wrong individual has been incarcerated and that the true facts of the matter are poised to emerge.

"I’m very confident that the truth is going to come out," Ekpa declared. He further added, "They will know that the wrong person has been imprisoned.” His statement underscores his belief in his innocence and the eventual vindication of his stance.
