Nigerian Ex-Husband Gets 7.5 Years for Brutal Attack on Estranged Wife in Scotland

In a dramatic turn of events, a Nigerian man, Osarenkhoe Atutie, has been sentenced to seven and a half years in prison for the attempted murder of his estranged wife, Victory Atutie. This judgment was handed down at the High Court in Glasgow on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, after Atutie had pleaded guilty to the crime. The incident, which occurred on November 11, 2025, on Duke Street in Leith, Edinburgh, left the 30-year-old victim with 12 injuries, including a collapsed lung and facial scarring. According to the court, Atutie had tracked down his estranged wife and their child to Edinburgh after they moved from London, following the end of their relationship. The attack happened when the wife and child were on their way to a doctor's appointment, and the child called out to her father, prompting the violent assault. Lord Cubie, the presiding judge, described the attack as sustained and premeditated, stating that the victim could have lost her life were it not for the intervention of passersby who disarmed Atutie and held him until the police arrived. The judge also commended the bravery of these individuals and imposed a lifetime ban on Atutie from contacting his ex-wife. Atutie's defense team acknowledged that he was struggling with mental health issues at the time of the attack but emphasized that this did not justify his actions.
