Jigawa Command Foils Drug Ring: Three Suspects Arrested, Large Illicit Haul Recovered

Law enforcement officials in Jigawa State have apprehended three individuals suspected of drug dealing, confiscating a total of 5,676 units of various illegal substances. This significant bust, stemming from an intelligence-driven operation throughout the state, was announced by SP Shi’isu Adam, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Jigawa State Command, in a statement issued to reporters on Wednesday from Dutse, the state capital.

SP Adam explained that these arrests form part of the Command's intensified campaign against drug trafficking, aimed at safeguarding citizens from the perils of substance abuse. He further elaborated, stating that “The suspects were arrested during coordinated raids carried out by police operatives based on credible intelligence gathered on activities linked to the sale, distribution and abuse of prohibited drugs.”

The PPRO named the arrested individuals as Umar Rabiu, also known as Sarka, aged 22, from Unguwar Gamji; Auwalu Muhammad, 25, residing in Gusau Quarters; and Umar Akilu, 25, from Kuka Village. He detailed the seized items, confirming that “The operation resulted in the recovery of a large quantity of suspected illicit substances, including 3,833 Exol tablets, 204 Tramadol tablets, 919 Diazepam tablets and 114 Pregabalin capsules.”

Furthermore, Adam revealed that law enforcement agents also seized 101 tubes of rubber solution, 30 Lara capsules, bottles of codeine syrup, and two litres of a local concoction known as “Suck and Die,” among other suspected banned substances. In addition, Adam stated that “The police also recovered dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, scientifically known as Cannabis sativa, comprising one block and 475 wraps.” The operation also yielded N93,626 in cash, which authorities believe to be profits generated from the illegal drug business.

These recent arrests, he noted, underscore the Command’s ongoing offensive against criminal organizations engaged in the smuggling, supply, and consumption of prohibited drugs throughout Jigawa State. The Commissioner of Police extended commendations to the officers who participated in the operation, applauding their professionalism, sharp vigilance, and unwavering commitment to dismantling the operations of suspected criminals involved in the illicit drug trade, as conveyed by the PPRO.

Adam reported that the Police Commissioner emphasized how “the abuse and trafficking of narcotic substances remain major contributors to violent crimes and other social vices, particularly among young people.” The Commissioner, Adam further noted, issued a stern warning to anyone engaged in the sale, distribution, or consumption of prohibited drugs, urging them to cease these activities immediately or face the full force of legal consequences. He reiterated that “the Command would continue to intensify intelligence-led operations against drug networks.”

Adam concluded by revealing that the trio of suspects has already been charged in court, assuring that “the Jigawa Police Command will continue to ensure that all persons found culpable in connection with the offences are brought to justice.”
