UK Court Jails Nigerian Man for 13 Months Over Dangerous Driving

A 23-year-old Nigerian national, Michael Chiedu Nwanze, has been handed a 13-month prison sentence in the United Kingdom following a high-stakes police pursuit through the streets of Northampton. The judgment was delivered at Northampton Crown Court in June, where Nwanze faced several charges stemming from an incident on March 10.

Police officers had initially attempted to stop Nwanze's vehicle because it was uninsured. However, instead of complying, he reportedly sped off, initiating a dangerous chase. During the pursuit, Nwanze drove at speeds exceeding 100mph, disregarded multiple traffic lights, and put other road users at significant risk.

The dramatic escape came to an end when Nwanze, caught in heavy traffic, crashed into several other vehicles near the Wilby Way roundabout, bringing his reckless journey to an abrupt halt. He subsequently admitted guilt to a range of offenses, including dangerous driving, operating a vehicle without insurance, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence, and failing to comply with a police stop.
