NIS Foils QNET/IGNITE Trafficking Scheme, Arrests 12 Foreign Nationals

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has successfully dismantled an alleged transnational human trafficking ring, leading to the apprehension of twelve individuals and the rescue of two victims in Lagos State. The operation specifically targeted a fraudulent network marketing group identified as QNET/IGNITE.

According to a press release issued on Tuesday, August 4th, by NIS Public Relations Officer, AS Akinlabi, these arrests were a direct result of credible intelligence concerning trafficking syndicates operating within Lagos. The statement detailed the capture of Ouattara Adama, a Burkinabe national, who is believed to be the principal leader of the QNET/IGNITE syndicate. Alongside Adama, eleven other suspected facilitators were taken into custody; this group includes eight Liberian nationals and three Cameroonians.

Furthermore, the coordinated effort resulted in the rescue of two Liberian citizens, who were identified as having fallen prey to the syndicate's illicit activities. Mr. Akinlabi confirmed that “the twelve (12) suspects and the two (2) victims have been transferred to the Service Headquarters for further investigation and necessary legal action.”

The NIS has characterized the QNET/IGNITE network as a sophisticated transnational organized criminal syndicate. This group is reportedly involved in deceptive employment and business schemes that are intrinsically linked to irregular migration patterns.

In light of these findings, the Service has strongly advised the public to exercise caution and thoroughly verify all offers related to employment, education, business, or migration through official channels. This verification should occur before making any financial commitments or commencing international travel.

The NIS statement emphasized that the successful apprehension of both the syndicate leader and other facilitators underscores the agency's dedication to intelligence-driven border management strategies. It further highlighted that this operation reinforces the Service's commitment to eradicating all forms of irregular migration and transnational organized crimes across Nigeria, aligning with the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration's renewed hope agenda.

Investigations are currently ongoing as the Service works to identify additional members of this criminal network and locate potential victims nationwide.
