Fatal Stabbing in Jigawa: 20-Year-Old in Police Custody

A tragic incident has unfolded in Jigawa State, where a 20-year-old man, identified as Saminu Ibrahim, has been taken into custody by the police for his alleged role in the stabbing death of his friend. This unfortunate event occurred in the Ringim Local Government Area, according to a statement released by the Jigawa State Police Command's spokesperson, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, on Monday, August 3, 2026. Preliminary investigations have revealed that a dispute between two young men, both aged 20, escalated into violence, resulting in one of them being fatally stabbed with a sharp metal object known locally as Danbuda. The victim was rushed to a hospital but sadly succumbed to his injuries. The police have confirmed that the case is under investigation and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Dutse for further investigation before the suspect is prosecuted. As stated in the police report, 'Today, Monday, 3rd August 2026, at about 1030hrs, the Command received a report of a culpable homicide incident that occurred at Dabigel Village, Ringim Local Government Area.' The police spokesperson further explained that the misunderstanding between the two youths degenerated into violence, during which one of them allegedly used the sharp metal object to inflict a fatal chest wound on the other. The police acted swiftly, arresting Saminu Ibrahim, a resident of Gidan Gona village in Ringim LGA, in connection with the incident. Upon completion of the investigation, the suspect will be arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction to face the full weight of the law.
