Borno Surrenders: Family of Suspected Insurgents Yield to Troops

In a significant development, two relatives of suspected Boko Haram insurgents have turned themselves in to the troops of the Joint Task Force North-East, Operation HADIN KAI. The individuals, identified as 30-year-old Hadiza Ahmadu and her 8-year-old son, Ishaku Saleh, surrendered to the 192 Battalion (Mechanised) at approximately 9:50 a.m. on August 2, 2026. According to intelligence sources, the duo approached the troops during a patrol along the Gwoza–Limankara Road and expressed their intention to leave the terrorist-controlled enclave. Preliminary investigations revealed that they had escaped from the Kwatara terrorist enclave in the Mandara Mountains, where they had been living under the control of the insurgents. The escapees cited severe shortages of basic necessities, including food and essential supplies, as the reason for their decision to flee. Following their surrender, they were screened, documented, and taken into the custody of the 192 Battalion for further profiling and necessary administrative procedures. This development is seen as a reflection of the sustained pressure being mounted on terrorist hideouts by Operation HADIN KAI troops, which has continued to weaken the logistics and living conditions of the insurgents within their enclaves across the North-East.
