A former councillor of Rim Ward in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, Hon. Daniel Danjuma Chong, has fallen victim to the rising insecurity in the region. He was killed by suspected armed Fulani militias and hired bandits who invaded Torok of Rim community on the night of August 2, 2026. The attack, which was confirmed by the National Publicity Secretary of Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM), Rwang Tengwong, also left one Mr. David Dachollom Danjuma with gunshot injuries. According to Tengwong, the gunmen came from a Fulani settlement known as Bangai-Fulani, located in Kess, and fled back to the same location after the attack. The Berom Youth Moulders-Association has condemned the attack, describing it as a 'terror attack' that claimed the life of a former legislator. The association has called on security agencies and the Plateau State Government to arrest the perpetrators and dislodge all terrorist enclaves in the area, including Bangai-Fulani. They have also demanded a ban on open grazing, which they believe is being used as a cover for terrorism and banditry in the region. The association extended its condolences to the family of the deceased and the people of Torok Community, while wishing Mr. David Dachollom Danjuma a speedy recovery. The continuous killing of innocent citizens has been described as unacceptable, with the association calling for those responsible to face justice.
