Ex-Rivers LG Security Chief Murdered in Cold Blood

A disturbing incident occurred in Bori, the headquarters of Khana Local Government Area in Rivers State, on Sunday evening. Mr. Letam Kine, a former Chief Security Officer of the area, was brutally shot and killed by unknown gunmen. The incident took place along Polytechnic Road in Bori, with eyewitnesses suspecting that the attackers might be cultists. According to an eyewitness who chose to remain anonymous due to the sensitive nature of the incident, the attack caused widespread panic, with residents and passers-by fleeing for safety after hearing the gunshots. The eyewitness stated, 'As a result of the incident, social and business activities were immediately halted, with shop owners hurriedly closing their businesses.' The source further added, 'As I speak with you, activities have resumed, unlike last night, but people, especially students, are still afraid over the killing, which many said was carried out by cultists.' The Chairman of Khana Local Government Area, Dr. Thomas Bariere, has strongly condemned the killing, describing it as a senseless act of violence. In a statement issued on Sunday, Dr. Bariere expressed deep concern that the incident came just weeks after a similar killing in a nearby community, noting that the repeated attacks suggested the activities of armed criminal gangs determined to undermine the peace and security of Khana. The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the incident, with the spokesperson, Blessing Agabe, stating that the deceased's body had been deposited in a morgue and that an investigation is underway to ensure the arrest of the perpetrators.
