In a dramatic turn of events, a Kano State High Court has handed down a death sentence to Sha'aibu Abdulkadir for the murder of a newlywed pregnant woman, Rumasa'u Shuaibu. The incident, which occurred in 2025, took a shocking turn when Abdulkadir claimed that he committed the crime after the deceased revealed to him that the baby she was carrying was his, and not her husband's. This revelation allegedly led to a heated argument, during which Abdulkadir demanded N500,000 from the deceased and threatened to expose their affair if she failed to comply. Justice Farida Dan Baffa of High Court No. 22 delivered the judgment, stating that the prosecution had proven the charge of culpable homicide beyond reasonable doubt. The court's decision was based on the testimonies of three witnesses and the defendant's own testimony. According to the evidence presented in court, Abdulkadir visited the deceased at her residence, where the argument escalated, resulting in the tragic death of the young woman. The prosecution successfully established the offence, leading to the defendant's sentencing to death by hanging.
