Tragedy Strikes Abia Community as Family of Five Found Lifeless

A devastating incident has occurred in Umuimo, Osisioma Ngwa local government area of Abia State, where five members of the same family were found dead in their home. The discovery was made on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, after concerned neighbors and community members broke into the house, having not seen the family for several days. The deceased have been identified as Mr. Kachi Nnabugwu, his wife, Mrs. Chinaza Nnabugwu, and their three children. According to reports, the family was last seen on Saturday, July 18, and when they failed to emerge from their house, their absence raised concerns among the community. Upon entering the house, the community members found the decomposing bodies of the family, along with containers of leftover food and a generator set. The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, confirmed the incident on Wednesday, July 22, stating that the attention of the Osisioma Divisional Police Headquarters was drawn to the incident by the brother of the deceased. The brother had reported being unable to reach Mr. Nnabugwu, prompting a visit to the residence, where the lifeless and decomposing bodies were discovered. The crime scene has been visited, and a preliminary visual inspection of the bodies was conducted, with photographs taken. The corpses have been deposited at the morgue for preservation and autopsy. A video shared online shows community members performing traditional rites following the incident.
