Operation HADIN KAI Troops Smash Boko Haram's Extortion Plot in Yobe, Neutralize Terrorist

In a daring operation, troops of Operation HADIN KAI have successfully foiled a sinister plot by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists to extort money from innocent residents in Yobe State. The operation, which was carried out by troops of Sector 2, Operation HADIN KAI, in conjunction with the 27 Task Force Brigade, was based on credible intelligence that the terrorists were planning to collect illegal levies from local communities. The intelligence revealed that the terrorists were travelling in two Volkswagen Golf vehicles and motorcycles. On 19 July, the troops launched a fierce fighting patrol to the Paya Kafiya axis, where they intercepted the terrorists and engaged them in a fierce battle. One of the Volkswagen Golf vehicles was damaged during the exchange, and its driver was killed. Four other suspected terrorists abandoned their vehicle and fled into nearby bushes with gunshot wounds. A follow-up clearance operation was conducted on 20 July along the Paya Kafiya–Garin Gada axis, which led to the recovery of the abandoned vehicle, 25 rounds of belted PKT ammunition, a loaded AK-47 magazine, 15 empty PKT ammunition cases, assorted drugs, including paracetamol and nicotine products, as well as mechanical tools believed to have supported the terrorists’ logistics operations. The operation is seen as a significant blow to Boko Haram/ISWAP’s logistics and illicit revenue networks. The Nigerian Army has reiterated its commitment to sustaining pressure on terrorist elements across the North-East in collaboration with other security agencies until lasting peace and stability are restored in the region.
