National Assembly Launches Fresh Probe into Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council Scandal

The House of Representatives has constituted an ad-hoc committee to investigate allegations of corruption against the Director General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, Adeniyi Adeyemi. This move comes despite ongoing investigations by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission and the police. The committee, chaired by Hon. Yusuf Gagdi, will examine how the purported agency was included in the federal budget and if any government processes were compromised. According to a reliable source, the committee will commence its sitting on Monday at 2 p.m. and will hold a public hearing on the same day. The source noted that the committee has begun sending invitations to relevant stakeholders, including Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, as well as civil society organizations, to submit memoranda and attend the public hearing. President Bola Tinubu had directed the ICPC to investigate the allegations and submit a comprehensive report within 30 days. Adeyemi is currently in police custody after his arrest in Osun, following a court order. He is also facing a N15 billion defamation suit filed by a prominent figure, who accused him of demanding a 48 per cent kickback from a N27.3 billion take-off grant approved for the purported federal agency.
