Tragedy Strikes Sokoto as Nine Youths Perish in Fatal Road Accident

A devastating road accident has resulted in the loss of nine young lives from Yabo Local Government Area in Sokoto State. The victims were en route to Lagos in search of better economic opportunities when the tragic incident occurred on Friday. The news of the accident has sent shockwaves through the Yabo community, prompting an outpouring of condolences from across the state. Umar Yusuf Danmaje Yabo, the member representing Yabo/Shagari Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, expressed his profound sorrow upon receiving the news. In a statement made available to journalists, Danmaje described the incident as a monumental loss to the affected families, the constituency, and the nation at large. He noted that the youths had embarked on the journey with the hope of securing better livelihoods and supporting their families. Danmaje lamented that the tragedy reflects the difficult economic realities confronting many Nigerian youths, forcing them to travel long distances in search of employment. He extended his condolences to the families of the deceased and called on relevant authorities to strengthen measures aimed at reducing fatal road crashes on Nigerian highways. Danmaje also urged governments at all levels to invest more in youth empowerment, skills acquisition, and job creation programmes to reduce the need for young people to migrate across the country in search of economic opportunities. The incident has sparked renewed concern over youth unemployment, internal migration, and road safety, with residents of Yabo describing the incident as one of the community’s darkest moments in recent years. A senior official of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Kebbi State Command, confirmed that the incident happened outside the state, close to Kainji in Niger State.
