A shocking discovery was made on Tuesday at the University of Jos's Permanent Site in Plateau State, where the headless body of a man was found. Reports indicate that the victim's head had been severed and removed from the scene by the perpetrator or perpetrators.

The grim incident was corroborated by various students and employees of the university, including Mr. Agama Tangni, the institution's Chief Security Officer, who spoke to PUNCH Online in Jos on Tuesday.

Mr. Tangni clarified that the deceased individual was not affiliated with the university as either a student or a staff member. He stated, “I can confirm to you that somebody was beheaded here. He is not a student, nor is he a staff member of the university.”

Despite not being a university affiliate, the CSO mentioned that the victim's identity was known due to his frequent visits to the area. Tangni explained, “But the identity of the deceased is known because the particular spot where he was beheaded is where he used to come for farming. He usually comes there very early in the morning.”

Tangni suggested that initial findings pointed towards a premeditated attack. He remarked, “I don’t know whether the assailants have been monitoring him, but from the look of things, the attackers targeted him, beheaded him and went away with his severed head.”

Furthermore, Tangni confirmed that the victim’s family had been informed of the tragedy, and his remains were subsequently moved to Bingham University Teaching Hospital. He affirmed, “The relations of the deceased are aware, and his corpse has been taken to the Bingham University Teaching Hospital.”

The university's management has been apprised of the incident, and they plan to issue a formal communication to the entire university community, according to the CSO. Tangni stated, “The University of Jos is already aware of the unfortunate incident, and they are going to send a memo or pass information to all the platforms of the institution.”

As of the time this report was compiled, the Plateau State Police Command had not yet released an official statement regarding the incident. Attempts to contact the command’s spokesperson, Alabo Alfred, proved unsuccessful, as his phone was switched off.

In the wake of the discovery, security measures have been intensified around the university’s permanent site, while investigations into the gruesome act are ongoing.
