Adamawa Man Lands in Prison for Incestuous Relationship with Daughter

A disturbing case of incest has come to light in Adamawa State, where a man, Jediel Sylvester, has been remanded in prison for allegedly impregnating his own daughter. The Upper Area Court No.1 in Ganye Local Government Area, presided over by Hon. Kabiru Musa, ordered Sylvester's remand after he pleaded guilty to the charges brought against him. The case was filed by the victim and her uncle, Mohammed Audi, through their lawyer, Abdulrahman Njidda Esq., under section 111 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Adamawa State, 2018. According to the complainants, Sylvester, who is married to the victim's mother, had been abusing his daughter, who then became pregnant. When the girl's menstrual period stopped, Sylvester took her to a medical personnel, who confirmed that she was three months pregnant. The victim alleged that her father had been beating, forcing, and intimidating her into having sexual relations with him. The court heard that Sylvester had suggested aborting the pregnancy but was advised against it due to the risks involved. The complainants accused Sylvester of committing offences including incest, criminal intimidation, and assault, contrary to sections 367, 382, and 242 of the Penal Code Law of Adamawa State. When the charges were read to him, Sylvester pleaded guilty and attributed his actions to lust.
