Chilling Threats to Ex-Wife Preceded Canadian Dentist's Murder of Sons, Self in Canada

A deeply disturbing incident has emerged from Canada, where 40-year-old dentist Mohammed Al-Lami is suspected of killing his two young sons, aged 7 and 12, at his south Ottawa home. This tragic event was reportedly followed by him setting fire to his dental practice and subsequently taking his own life in a vehicle blaze in Kemptville on the morning of June 29. The Ottawa Police Service confirmed these details, noting that these actions occurred approximately two years after Al-Lami allegedly sent a menacing email to his children’s mother, threatening to “kill everyone around her.” Authorities, referencing reports from the CBC, also linked Al-Lami to the fire that engulfed the dental clinic where he was employed in Iroquois.
Reports indicate that a multi-page handwritten note found on Al-Lami's office desk contained strong condemnations of his ex-wife, alongside the criminal justice and family court systems. In this note, he accused three specific individuals of corruption, which led law enforcement to promptly verify their safety. Furthermore, Al-Lami’s writings vehemently claimed his former spouse was the perpetrator of abuse in their marital relationship.
Court documents reveal that the estranged father was serving a probation term for issuing threats of bodily harm against his ex-wife, who is also the mother of the deceased children. This probation stemmed from an incident in 2024. During a brief trial held in February of the current year, Al-Lami chose to represent himself and declined a court proposal for a one-year peace bond to settle the dispute.
The unidentified ex-wife testified in court, recounting that she and Al-Lami were married and had two sons before their divorce in 2022. Following their separation, the dentist reportedly ceased child support payments and, in 2024, sent a deeply unsettling email containing numerous alarming threats.
Part of the menacing email, as reported, stated: “I will kill everyone around you and your pimp … in a very wild and savage way. I won’t kill you. I will leave you alone, disabled in a wheelchair that you can’t move, even to visit your loved ones’ graves.” He further declared, “I’ll make you an example of the unfair justice system. I will make you a worldwide story.” The email continued, addressing his ex’s current partner as “pig,” saying, “When you do something wrong to me, you pay for it. You pay for it either through the child support or whatever I feel suitable to respond to your actions until I end it the way I like for you and [your] pig.”
The woman expressed her “astonishment” in court over her former husband's abhorrent language, noting that her only request had been for child support. Under cross-examination, she explained her decision to report the threatening email was driven by concern for her children's safety and at the urging of her current partner.
The mother articulated her fears, stating, “I just felt, what if he literally, this happened? And then who’s going to be there for my kids if anything happened to me?” She further testified, “I just don’t know what can happen. I just didn’t want to live with the unpredictability,” admitting that she had not previously taken his threats seriously.
When confronted with the allegations, Al-Lami informed the judge that he “didn’t have anything to say.” Subsequently, a judge sentenced him to 12 months of probation, rejecting the Crown’s applications for mandatory treatment programs and a DNA order.
In an official statement, the police confirmed their ongoing investigation into the murder-suicide, promising to disclose further details upon the conclusion of additional “forensic examinations.” To respect the children’s mother, who is currently receiving support from authorities, their names will not be released. The police statement acknowledged the widespread impact of such events, noting, “Incidents like this affect us all, and we acknowledge the shock and heartbreak many are experiencing as we work to understand what happened.” They also urged the public to offer support to one another, advising, “Please check in on one another. If you or someone you know is struggling, consider reaching out to family, friends, a trusted community member, local support organizations, or professional services in your area. You do not have to navigate this alone.”
