Ondo Community Rocked: Father of Five Murdered During Armed Robbery

A chilling atmosphere has enveloped the Shagari district of Akure South Local Council Area in Ondo State, following the brutal slaying of Idris Abiodun Clement, a 47-year-old refrigeration and air conditioning technician. The tragic incident, which saw the father of five lose his life, occurred during a suspected armed robbery at his home in the early hours of Sunday, July 5, 2026.

Reports indicate that Clement sustained fatal injuries after confronting the intruders who had forcibly entered his compound around 1:00 a.m. The assailants, believed to be three in number, had already robbed two other residences in the vicinity before targeting Clement's family. Unaware of the robbers' heavy armament, Clement bravely faced one of the criminals in an attempt to protect his household.

AbdulFatai Clement, one of the deceased's sons, recounted the devastating ordeal. “The armed robbers came into our street around 1 a.m. and started robbing residents. They had robbed about two other houses before they came into our house in full force,” he narrated. “My father did not want to leave anything to chance, so he confronted one of the robbers to defend the family, not knowing there were about three or four of them and that they were heavily armed. They attacked him with axes and cutlasses before one of them brought out a gun and shot him. The robbers fled immediately after he collapsed. We had to rush him to the hospital, but he had lost so much blood. The doctors later confirmed him d3ad.”

Identifying himself simply as Hakeem, a close associate of the late Clement described the event as a profoundly painful and senseless act of violence. Hakeem further noted that Clement was widely respected for his generous spirit and his readiness to support others in legitimate business ventures. Meanwhile, Taibat Clement, the grieving widow, has made an earnest appeal to both the state government and security agencies, urging them to ensure that the perpetrators of her husband's murder are brought to justice.

Confirming the incident, DSP Jimoh Abayomi, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, announced that one suspect has been apprehended in connection with the robbery and murder. Abayomi stated that security operatives arrested the individual, who is now cooperating with investigators. “We have arrested a suspect in connection with the violent attack on residents of Shagari and the k!lling of the technician,” Abayomi confirmed. “The suspect is currently in our custody at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCID) and is assisting the police with the investigation.”
