US-Based Nigerian Recounts Losing Friend Over Crime-Related Relationship Advice

A Nigerian woman based in the United States recently took to social media to recount a past incident where offering unsolicited advice led to the termination of a friendship. She shared how she once intervened in a friend’s relationship after his fiancée committed a criminal act.
According to her account, while other members of their social circle advocated for the man to forgive his partner, she held a different view. She recalled telling him directly, “why should he forgive her? What she did was terrible. He should move on and find someone else.” Her strong counsel was based on the severity of the fiancée's actions, which she explicitly stated “was a crime oh.”
Despite her firm recommendation, the friend evidently chose a different path. Just one month after her intervention, wedding invitations were dispatched to everyone in their group, except for her. She further detailed the complete estrangement that followed, stating that the “Husband and wife cut me off clean and smoothly like butter.”
The experience left her with a clear lesson: “Never put mouth in other people’s business was my lesson from that.” She also reiterated her personal conviction that if her own partner were involved in such a situation, she would advise breaking off the relationship, as “you don’t want to tie yourself up with someone who could commit crimes like that.”
Concluding her reflection, she noted the ironic outcome: “But he married her and they are happy together because at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter whether you are a good or bad person. Whoever wants to love you will love you.”
