Man Posing as Soldier Nabbed in Katsina During Patrol

Troops from the 17 Brigade have successfully apprehended an individual suspected of impersonating a military officer during an operational patrol in Katsina State's Malumfashi Local Government Area. The arrest occurred around 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 4, 2026, when soldiers stationed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Malumfashi intercepted the suspect during their regular patrols within Malumfashi town.
Security sources revealed that the individual attracted the attention of the vigilant troops because he was wearing a three-quarter length short in woodland camouflage print, which immediately raised red flags. A subsequent search conducted on the suspect yielded several incriminating items. These included a counterfeit Nigerian Army identity card, four Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards, the camouflage three-quarter short he was wearing, a wristwatch, and a cash sum of N17,000.
The arrested suspect, along with all the recovered exhibits, is presently in military custody as investigations continue. Military officials indicated that this apprehension is part of ongoing efforts by the forces to combat the prevalent issue of security personnel impersonation and various other criminal acts within the region.
