Ondo Police Nab Suspect After Akure Robbery Claims Technician's Life

Authorities in Ondo State announced on Sunday the apprehension of an individual linked to the fatal shooting of a technician, Mr. Idris Clement, allegedly by a gang of armed robbers. Clement, aged 47, reportedly met his untimely end on Friday after encountering a four-man robbery crew at his Akure residence, the state capital.
Reports indicate that the assailants descended upon the community around 1 a.m., terrorising residents and stripping them of their possessions. They subsequently forced their way into Clement’s home, where the tragic shooting occurred.
DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the Public Relations Officer for the Ondo State Police Command, verified the incident during a phone conversation. He revealed that security operatives apprehended a suspect who is now cooperating with the command’s ongoing inquiry. DSP Jimoh stated, 'We have arrested a suspect in connection with the violent attack on residents of the Shagari area and the killing of the technician. The suspect is currently in our custody at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department and is assisting the police with the investigation.'
The police spokesperson affirmed the command’s resolve to pursue the case diligently. 'We will ensure that everyone involved is arrested, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the robbery gang who are still at large,' Jimoh declared. He further stressed that a comprehensive investigation is in progress, promising that all individuals found responsible would be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
AbdulFatai Clement, one of the deceased’s sons, recounted the harrowing ordeal to journalists, calling it a devastating attack. He explained that the robbers had already targeted two other residences in the vicinity before forcibly entering their family compound. AbdulFatai narrated, 'The armed robbers came into our street around 1 a.m. and started robbing residents. They had robbed about two other houses before they came into our house in full force.' He continued, 'My father did not want to leave anything to chance, so he confronted one of the robbers to defend the family, not knowing there were about three or four of them and that they were heavily armed.' According to AbdulFatai, 'They attacked him with axes and cutlasses before one of them brought out a gun and shot him. The robbers fled immediately after he collapsed. We rushed him to the hospital, but he had lost so much blood. The doctors later confirmed him dead.'
Mrs. Taibat Clement, the grieving widow, has implored both the Ondo State Government and various security outfits to guarantee that those culpable for her husband’s death face appropriate legal consequences.
