Bindura Court Jails Man Over Razor Attack on Wife's Genitals

A 32-year-old man in Bindura, Zimbabwe, has been handed an effective 12-month jail term by a Magistrates' Court after confessing to assaulting his wife with a razor blade. The incident, as detailed by the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), took place on June 21, 2026, at a farm in Bindura. It followed a heated disagreement between the couple, reportedly stemming from allegations of infidelity.
Prosecutors informed the court that the accused allegedly feigned a desire for intimacy with his 42-year-old wife. During this pretense, he reportedly grabbed her genital area and proceeded to use a razor blade to sever a portion of it. The victim was said to have experienced significant blood loss in the aftermath of the brutal attack. The NPAZ further noted that the man later offered his bleeding wife water to cleanse herself.
The assailant entered a guilty plea to charges of domestic violence involving physical abuse, a violation under Zimbabwe's Domestic Violence Act. Initially, the court imposed an 18-month imprisonment sentence. However, six months of this sentence were conditionally suspended for a period of five years, contingent on the man maintaining good behaviour. This left him with an active prison term of 12 months.
In its comments regarding the judgment, the NPAZ reiterated the commitment of the justice system to safeguarding victims of gender-based violence and ensuring that perpetrators are held accountable for their actions.
