A Federal High Court sitting in Kano has issued an order for the remand of Sani Mamman and Abubakar Umar, both residents of Katsina State, following allegations that they assisted bandits.

Sani Mamman, who hails from Ruwan Godiya in Faskari Local Government Area, is accused of transporting suspected bandits to a forest in Faskari sometime in March 2025. This alleged action is contrary to the provisions outlined in Section 13 (a), (b), and (c) of the Terrorism Prevention Act. When the charges were read to him, Mamman entered a plea of not guilty, stating that he is not a driver but earns a living by selling beans from a wheelbarrow. He also informed the court that while his father is deceased, his mother is still alive and resides in Funtua.

Prosecution counsel, Hadiza Adamu Yabani, confirmed to the court that Mamman has been held in detention since his arrest in March 2025.

The second defendant, Abubakar Umar, a resident of Rimi Local Government Area in Katsina State, was apprehended on December 2nd, 2024. He is accused of attempting to convey arms and ammunition to bandits, an act that violates Section 13 of the Terrorism Prevention Act. Umar also denied the charge, asserting that he was not involved. He told the court that prior to his arrest, his income sources were farming and selling perishable goods.

H.A Kalmaten, counsel for the defendants, informed the court that he had taken over the case from I.I Umar after consulting with his client.

Justice S.M. Shuaibu has adjourned the proceedings to July 7th and 8th for the commencement of the trial. Both defendants are to remain in a correctional facility within the court's jurisdiction until then.
