Bauchi Police Apprehend Man Over Alleged Defilement of Nine-Year-Old Girl

The Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 50-year-old man implicated in the alleged defilement of a nine-year-old girl within the Katagum Local Government Area of the state. The command's spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, announced this development in a statement released on Monday, June 29, 2026. The suspect, identified as Muhammadu Audu, is accused of threatening to kill the young victim with a knife if she revealed the incident to her parents.
According to SP Habib, the victim’s father lodged a complaint on June 15, detailing how Audu allegedly lured his daughter to an unfinished building the previous day, June 14. The girl was reportedly hawking soya bean cake when the suspect enticed her under the guise of making a purchase, subsequently engaging in unlawful sexual intercourse with her.
The statement from the Bulkachuwa Division of the Bauchi State Police Command confirmed the apprehension, stating, "Operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command, attached to Bulkachuwa Division have arrested a 50-year-old man for allegedly def!ling a 9-year-old girl in Bulkachuwa, Katagum Local Government Area." The report, received at about 5 PM on June 15, 2026, from a Bulkachuwa resident, recounted the events of June 14, 2026, around the same time, when Muhammadu Audu of the same locality allegedly took the minor to an uncompleted structure.
The victim reportedly sustained injuries to her private parts and was immediately transported to the Primary Health Care Centre in Bulkachuwa for urgent medical examination and treatment. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to committing the crime on multiple occasions and admitted to issuing death threats with a knife to prevent the victim from disclosing the matter.
Presently, Muhammadu Audu remains in police custody. The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, mni, psc (+), has vehemently condemned the reprehensible act and has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the case. CP Aliyu reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against sexual violence and crimes targeting children.
