Niger Police Nab Two Suspects with Counterfeit $1,000 in Minna

The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the apprehension of two individuals in Minna who were found to be in possession of suspected counterfeit United States currency amounting to $1,000. The suspects, identified as Abba Ibrahim, 25, from Angwan-Sarki, Minna, and Abdulazeez Muhammad, 20, a resident of Paiko, were taken into custody by a police surveillance patrol team.
SP Wasiu Abiodun, the Command's spokesperson, issued a statement detailing the incident. According to him, the arrest occurred on June 22, 2026, around 8 pm, when a police surveillance patrol unit from the T/Wada Division was conducting a routine patrol near the David Mark roundabout. The team intercepted Ibrahim and Muhammad, who were riding on a Jincheng motorcycle.
During a search, officers discovered ten pieces of 100-dollar notes, believed to be counterfeit, totaling $1,000, in their possession. When questioned, Abdulazeez Muhammad claimed he had discovered a wallet containing the suspected fake money on the ground in Paiko. He further stated that he subsequently arranged with his friend, Abba Ibrahim, to meet in Minna with the intention of disposing of the counterfeit currency.
Both suspects have since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna for comprehensive investigation into the matter.
