Osun Anglican Bishop Commends Tinubu on Economy, Demands Decisive Insecurity Action

The Bishop of the Ijesa North Diocese of the Anglican Communion in Osun State, Rt. Revd. Isaac Oluyamo, has lauded President Bola Tinubu for his stewardship of the nation, acknowledging the persistent economic and governance hurdles. However, the cleric urged the Federal Government to intensify its efforts in combating insecurity, highlighting that ongoing violence, abductions, and banditry pose a significant threat to Nigeria's stability and economic advancement.
Bishop Oluyamo made these statements during the inaugural session of the third session of the fifth Synod of his Diocese, which took place at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Esa-Oke. His comments were detailed in a signed declaration distributed to journalists in Osogbo on Sunday. He articulated, “I commend the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in steering the affairs of the country amidst prevailing challenges.”
The Bishop also encouraged young Nigerians to consider mechanised agriculture and contemporary animal husbandry as viable paths to becoming self-sufficient, ensuring food security, and contributing to national growth. He stressed that, “Agriculture remains one of the most promising sectors for sustainable economic growth and employment generation.”
Furthermore, Oluyamo extended congratulations to the government and citizens of Ekiti State for the successful execution of their recent gubernatorial election. He also expressed optimism for peaceful and credible electoral processes in Osun State and during the upcoming 2027 general elections. “We also congratulate the government and people of Ekiti State on the successful conduct of their gubernatorial election, and we offer prayers for peaceful, credible, and transparent elections in Osun State, as well as in the forthcoming 2027 Presidential and National Assembly elections,” he stated.
Oluyamo implored Nigerians to actively participate in the democratic system by casting their votes according to their beliefs and conscience. He also called upon the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to consistently uphold principles of fairness, transparency, and impartiality in fulfilling its constitutional duties.
Addressing the nation's security concerns, the Bishop denounced the continuous occurrences of kidnapping, banditry, and other criminal acts. He pressed all tiers of government to redouble their efforts in protecting lives and property. He also advised Nigerians to maintain their faith, dedication to service, and hope for a brighter future, affirming his belief that responsible leadership, engaged citizenry, and divine intervention would enable the country to surmount its present difficulties.
The cleric observed that despite the President's declared focus on issues affecting Nigerians, fatalities across various regions continue unabated, while many businesses struggle under a challenging economic climate. Oluyamo advocated for more decisive measures to eradicate criminality nationwide and offered prayers for President Tinubu and members of the Federal Executive Council, seeking divine wisdom for them in tackling the nation's challenges.
