Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has committed his administration to providing for the family of Ummulkhairi Aliyu, who tragically lost her life to mob violence in Maraban Jos, Igabi Local Government Area. The governor's pledge includes supporting the deceased's husband and her four children, specifically covering their educational expenses. This assurance came during his condolence visit to the grieving family in Maraban Jos on Saturday, almost two weeks after the incident.

Ummulkhairi, an Islamic instructor, was fatally assaulted and her body incinerated by an angry crowd on June 14, following unverified accusations of child abduction, prior to the intervention of security forces.

During his visit, Governor Sani denounced the mob's actions as savage, promising the family that those responsible would face justice. He stated, “I was away from Kaduna State on official duty when this regrettable event happened, but I promptly instructed senior government officials to visit and offer their condolences. I also wish to reassure you that the Kaduna State Government will assume responsibility for the family's well-being. We will assist the husband and guarantee that the four children get a good education.”

Governor Sani further revealed his close collaboration with security organizations to ensure all individuals implicated in the homicide are prosecuted. He affirmed, “I am collaborating with the Commissioner of Police, the Director of the State Security Service, and all pertinent security agencies in Kaduna State to uncover the full details of this case. I am pleased to report that comprehensive investigations have been conducted. Currently, 41 individuals face charges of culpable homicide. An additional 41 persons have been investigated, bringing the total number probed to 82, with 30 suspects also indicted for unlawful assembly.”

He pledged that no one found involved in the killing would evade justice, irrespective of their social standing. The governor emphasized, “Every person found guilty will face the complete force of the law. We must convey an unambiguous message that no individual is permitted to resort to self-help.”

While commending the prompt actions and ongoing inquiries by security agencies, Uba Sani ordered a thorough examination into the conduct of certain security personnel, specifically the Divisional Police Officer overseeing Maraban Jos. He asserted that any officer discovered to have been negligent or to have compromised the investigation would similarly be held responsible.

The tragic death of Ummulkhairi Usman Aliyu provoked extensive outrage nationwide, prompting religious figures, civil society groups, and human rights advocates to call for justice and more stringent actions against mob violence. Subsequent to the event, the Kaduna State Police Command initiated a rigorous investigation, resulting in the apprehension and formal charging of numerous suspects for crimes such as culpable homicide and unlawful assembly. The state government has consistently reassured its citizens that all individuals linked to this killing will be prosecuted under the full extent of the law.
