Plateau Killings: Police Chief Deploys Top Team to Quell Violence

In response to the devastating attack on Kawel community in Mushere District, Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, which tragically claimed the lives of at least 20 people, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olutunji Disu, has swiftly deployed a high-level team to the area. Led by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 4 Headquarters, Makurdi, AIG Dankombo Morris, the team's primary objective is to assess the security situation on the ground, implement effective strategies to restore peace, and prevent any further attacks. The deployment of additional personnel and operational assets, including Police Mobile Force units and tactical teams, aims to bolster security presence in the affected communities. During a strategic visit to Bokkos, AIG Morris engaged in discussions with local government officials, traditional rulers, and other key stakeholders to coordinate a unified security response. The Plateau State Police Command, through its spokesperson DSP Alabo Alfred, issued a statement confirming the deployment and outlining the details of the visit. The statement highlighted the IGP's commitment to restoring calm and preventing further occurrences. AIG Morris, accompanied by members of the Plateau State Police Command's management team, held meetings with the Executive Chairman of Bokkos LGA, Hon. Amalau Samuel Amalau, and the President of Women in Politics Initiative, Plateau State Chapter, Mrs Hajara Yunana, among others. Hon. Amalau welcomed the delegation and commended the IGP for the swift response, describing the attack as a tragic and unprovoked act of criminality. He appealed for the deployment of additional security personnel to support ongoing efforts in protecting lives and property. Mrs Yunana expressed concern over the impact of the attack on women and families, commending the police response and urging concrete action, including the deployment of modern policing technology to strengthen security in vulnerable communities. AIG Morris conveyed the condolences of the IGP to the government and people of Plateau State, particularly the residents of Kawel community, and assured that the police would not relent until the perpetrators were apprehended and brought to justice. The situation, according to Morris, has been brought under control, with additional personnel deployed to strengthen security, restore confidence, and prevent further attacks. The public has been encouraged to report suspicious movements or criminal activities through designated police emergency and complaint lines, as the police work towards maintaining peace and order in the area.
