A popular social media personality, Uzebor Emmanuel, also known as 'Aza Woman' on TikTok, has been apprehended by the Edo State Police Command for allegedly spreading false information about the abduction of students in Benin City. According to the Command's spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem, preliminary investigations revealed that Emmanuel deliberately disseminated false reports across various social media platforms, claiming that several students were kidnapped from Green Park Academy in Aduwawa and Western Boys’ College on Ikpoba Hill on June 3, 2026. The false reports alleged that at least six individuals were forcefully abducted using commercial mini-transport buses, and that some of the victims had successfully escaped from their captors, while other families had paid cash ransoms to secure releases. Ikoedem stated that these unfounded publications generated widespread apprehension, heightened public anxiety, and threatened to undermine public confidence in the security architecture of Edo State. The police spokesperson noted that Emmanuel remains in custody and will be officially charged to court as soon as the ongoing investigation is concluded. Ikoedem advised members of the public to exercise restraint and demonstrate responsibility when using digital platforms, urging citizens to rigorously verify information from credible, official sources before sharing, and to refrain from using social media to distribute falsehoods capable of disrupting public peace and order.
